Posted by jeanemiller on February 8, 2014 at 6:00 PM Comments comments (0)
4 years ago the Guides celebrated their 100th birthday. At that time girls from all sections got involved, now it is our turn to celebrate the big brownie birthday, as they are turning 100 this year. GirlGuiding have brought out a badge and we have been working towards it over the last few weeks. We are taking a break from it for now but will finish the challenge and award the badges after half term.

A year on ....

A year ago we would have been preparing to spend the weekend in Disneyland Paris. There was snow underfoot and we were all excited. And I was 6 months pregnant. How time flies. It was a great weekend. The coach driver did a fabulous job of getting us there is the terrible weather. And Venture Abroad did well to manage the situation when we were there. The weekend goes by so quickly, but was worth all those hours sat on a coach there and back.

A small group of us went along to the Harpenden Public Halls last week to be entertained by the Harpenden and Wheathampsted Scouts. As always the show was fantastic, and Moley especially likes the tap dancing. It is always a great show, so much effort must go into it.

It wasn't long ago we were celebrating the Guide Centenary, and I know how exciting that was. And now 4 years on it is the turn of the Brownies. And like they helped us celebrate, we too will help them. The year of celebrations was kicked off by Girls from Luton being some of the 2,000 Brownies who had the party of a lifetime at Starburst 2014 celebrating the Big Brownie Birthday. Girls from Luton have just returned from the birthday party of a lifetime at Butlins Skegness for a very special celebration ? the Big Brownie Birthday! Members of varying groups in Luton joined around 2,000 girls from across the East of England at the adventure-filled Starburst event from 3-5 January 2014. The girl-only extravaganza was the first major event of 2014 to mark the Big Brownie Birthday, celebrating one hundred years of Brownies and kicking-off months of celebrations involving thousands of Girlguiding members around the UK. During the weekend, the girls took part in a range of adventurous activities including archery, circus skills, swimming and street dancing. They were also entertained by the famous Butlins? Redcoats and by a very special surprise appearance by X Factor?s Sam Callahan.

Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to get Big Gig tickets for this year. And as we had ear marked some funds donated which we were spending on the coach. So instead thinking of spending the money on a craft day instead. What do people think?

Tent pitching session on Monday was a success. The Guides liked the new 6-man tents. And all are looking forward to Region Camp in mid August when they will be sleeping in them. Although we have three of them we are only taking two away and sleeping in two patrols of six. #Excited

Excited!! Blacks had 6-man Icarus tents on sale with a further 25% discount. So spent our grant on 3 of them and some extra pegs. We had ?535.00 to spend and bill came to just ?515.95 - bargain. And the very kind men carried them to the car for me. Just need to get them to Luton before 22nd July for tent pitching session.
